Masked gunman fires four shots at man walking home in Coleraine

A man is receiving hospital treatment after being shot in the hand during an early-hours gun attack on the Bushmills Road in Coleraine, with police closing part of the route on Sunday morning as investigations continue.

The shooting happened in the early hours of Sunday, 12 April, when the victim was walking home between 1.00am and 1.30am.

According to initial reports, a male dressed entirely in black, with his face covered, approached the man on the Bushmills Road and fired four shots in his direction.

One of the shots struck the victim in the hand.

He has since attended hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Road closed as police carry out enquiries

Police officers remain at the scene on Sunday carrying out enquiries along the Bushmills Road.

As part of the investigation, the road has been closed from the junction with the Ballycastle Road to the junction with the Artillery Road.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while officers continue their work at the scene.

The closure remained in place as police gathered evidence following the shooting.

Appeal for witnesses and video footage

Officers have issued an appeal for information as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify the gunman.

Anyone who was in the area between 1.00am and 1.30am and may have seen anything suspicious is being urged to come forward.

Police are also particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam, doorbell or other video footage which could assist the investigation.
