Detectives investigating the murder of Wayne Reid in Coleraine have charged a man in connection with the case.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed that on Sunday 18 January, a 33-year-old man was charged with murder. He is due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday 19 January.

As is standard procedure, police said the charge will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Six other people remain in police custody as enquiries continue. They include a man aged 41 and five women aged 19, 33, 38, 39 and 45, all of whom were arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the ongoing investigation.

The investigation is being led by detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team following the death of 43-year-old Wayne Reid, who was found dead at an address in the Society Court area of Coleraine earlier this month.

Police have previously said they believe Mr Reid may have been involved in an altercation in the days leading up to his death and have appealed for information relating to activity in the Society Court and Society Street areas between Thursday 8 January and Saturday 10 January.

The investigation remains ongoing.
