Man arrested after car collides with pedestrians

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious incident on Main Street, Millisle, on Saturday evening, 17 May.


Police say a vehicle collided with a number of pedestrians before fleeing the scene.


The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that the collision occurred outside licensed premises on Main Street at approximately 11:05pm. Emergency services, including officers and colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), responded swiftly.



Detective Inspector Oonagh Ryan said:


“We received a report at around 11.05pm, that a vehicle had collided with a number of pedestrians outside licensed premises on Main Street, Millisle.


“It was reported that the vehicle involved, turned around and drove past the licensed premises again before making off from the scene.”



Two individuals were taken to hospital, where their injuries have been described as serious.


The suspect vehicle was located a short time later near Walkers Lane in Millisle. One man was subsequently arrested and remains in police custody.


“One man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a number of driving offences, he is currently in police custody,” Detective Inspector Ryan confirmed.


In the aftermath of the incident, Main Street remains closed to traffic as investigations continue. Police are urging motorists to seek alternative routes.



Detectives are now appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant footage from dashcams or doorbell cameras.


“Our enquiries are at an early stage and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, who witnessed the incident, or anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference CW 1805 of 17/05/25,” added Detective Inspector Ryan.
