A man has died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a scrambler bike on the Comber Road in Newtownards on the evening of Monday, 30 June.

The deceased has been named as 34-year-old Peter Kelly, who was from the Newtownards area.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued on Tuesday. According to the PSNI, emergency services were alerted to the crash shortly after 7.25pm.

“Around 7.25pm, we received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a scrambler. The rider of the scrambler sadly died as a result of injuries sustained.”

The Comber Road was closed for several hours to allow for an investigation at the scene but has since reopened to traffic.

Police have launched an appeal for information and are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or may have relevant footage to come forward.

“Enquiries are continuing, and anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam or other footage which could assist with our investigation, is asked to contact Collision Investigation Unit detectives via 101, quoting reference number 1558 of 30/06/25,” added Inspector Adair.

Officers are keen to speak with anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and may have seen the scrambler in the moments leading up to the collision. Dashcam footage, CCTV, or mobile phone videos could prove vital to the ongoing investigation
