Marks & Spencer has submitted a planning application for a new flagship Foodhall at Lakelands Retail Park in Enniskillen, signalling a significant retail move that would see the brand relocate to a larger, purpose-built site while retaining its existing workforce.

The proposal, lodged with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in partnership with Elm Grange Ltd, forms part of M&S’s wider store rotation programme and is aimed at modernising its presence in the town.

If approved, the development would introduce a state-of-the-art Foodhall designed to deliver a more spacious, accessible and contemporary shopping experience for customers.

Modern retail move for Enniskillen

The application outlines plans for a purpose-built M&S Foodhall within Lakelands Retail Park, offering what the retailer describes as a “fresh market style” environment.

Customers can expect a broad range of M&S food lines, including fresh produce, bakery items, chilled meals and value grocery products, all housed within a modern retail setting intended to enhance convenience and overall experience.

The move reflects a shift towards updated store formats, with the new location positioned to better meet evolving customer expectations.

Jobs protected with potential for growth

M&S has confirmed that its current Enniskillen workforce — comprising 68 jobs — will be retained as part of the relocation.

In addition, the company expects the new store to create several extra roles, providing a modest employment boost alongside the transition.

This continuity offers reassurance for existing staff while indicating potential expansion tied to the upgraded premises.

Long-term investment in local retail presence

The retailer says the move is designed to strengthen its long-term position within the Enniskillen retail landscape, aligning with both community growth and changing shopping habits.

By relocating to a larger, fit-for-purpose unit, M&S aims to future-proof its offering while maintaining its established role in the local economy.

Ryan Lemon, M&S Regional Manager for Northern Ireland, said:

“Submitting this planning application marks an important step in our ambition to bring a new, modern Foodhall to Enniskillen, with a focus on great quality, trusted value and delicious food our customers know and love.

Moving to Lakelands Retail Park will allow us to offer a fresh, market-style shopping experience in a larger, more accessible space, while retaining our existing team. We’re proud of the role M&S plays in the community and look forward to this next chapter in Enniskillen.”

Decision timeline and next steps

The proposal is now subject to the planning process, with a decision from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council pending.

Subject to approval, M&S has indicated that it intends to open the new Foodhall next year, marking a notable shift in Enniskillen’s retail offering and reinforcing the town’s position as a key shopping destination in the region.
