M&S lowers meat prices while pledging no reduction in payments to British farmers

Friday 23 October 2026
Marks & Spencer has cut prices on a selection of British beef, lamb and pork products by up to 26%, helping shoppers save on everyday family meals while maintaining the prices it pays to farmers.
The supermarket is adding more meat products to its Remarksable Value range, including diced beef, lamb mince and pork sausages, as part of a wider effort to make the weekly food shop more affordable.
M&S says customers will receive exactly the same products, with no changes to quality, sourcing standards or animal welfare requirements.
How much shoppers can save
Three products have been confirmed for the latest price reductions:
• Diced British Beef (500g): Now £6.00, reduced from £7.00 – saving £1.00 (14%).
• British Lamb Mince (400g): Now £5.60, reduced from £6.20 – saving 60p (10%).
• British Pork Sausages: Now £2.00, reduced from £2.60 – saving 60p (23%).
M&S says selected reductions across the wider investment reach up to 26%, although the three examples provided range from approximately 10% to 23%.
The products will form part of the retailer's Remarksable Value range, which offers everyday essentials at prices benchmarked against competitors.
Lower prices without reducing farmer payments
A central part of the investment is M&S's commitment to absorbing the cost of the reductions rather than passing it on to its farming suppliers.
The retailer says farmers will continue receiving the same payments through existing long-term supply partnerships, despite customers paying less at the checkout.
M&S sources 100% British beef, lamb, chicken, pork and eggs, and says maintaining these relationships is particularly important as domestic producers face increasing competition from imported meat.
The company has 10-year partnerships with meat suppliers ABP and Dunbia, alongside a long-term agreement with Cranswick for sausages.
M&S says British farming remains a priority
Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, said:
"British farmers play a vital role in producing the high-quality food our customers expect, and we're committed to backing them for the long term.
"That's why we're investing to make our British beef, lamb and pork more affordable for customers while continuing to support farmers through the long-term partnerships that provide confidence to invest in their businesses.
"At a time when British farmers are facing increasing pressure, we're proud to champion British produce, support high standards of welfare and quality, and help more customers choose British meat at M&S."
Long-term confidence for producers
John Egerton, an M&S Select Beef Farmer, welcomed the commitment to maintaining support for producers while encouraging more shoppers to buy British meat.
He said:
"As farmers, we need confidence to invest in our businesses for the long term. M&S's commitment to British farming, backed by long-term partnerships and investment, helps provide that certainty.
"At a time when British farmers are facing increasing competition from imported products, it's great to see more customers being encouraged to choose high-quality British meat while knowing the farmers behind it continue to be supported."
Part of wider investment in food prices
The reductions form part of M&S's strategy to encourage customers to purchase more of their weekly groceries from its food halls, rather than visiting the retailer primarily for selected premium products.
They also sit alongside the company's Plan A for Farming strategy, which runs until 2030 and focuses on British sourcing, sustainability, animal welfare and the long-term resilience of farming businesses.
For shoppers, the immediate benefit is lower prices on familiar meat products, while M&S says its investment will allow British farmers to continue receiving the same payments despite the reductions at the checkout.
