The Northern Health and Social Care Trust has become the first health trust in Northern Ireland to reach 100,000 registrations for the My Care app, marking a significant milestone in patients’ access to digital healthcare services.
The achievement means around one in four people living in the Northern Trust area can now access key information from their digital medical records through the app.
My Care provides patients with a convenient and secure way to view important aspects of their healthcare, bringing information from health and social care trusts together in one place.
What can patients access through My Care?
The app allows patients to access information including upcoming appointments, selected blood test results and details of their medications, helping them stay informed about their treatment and prepare for healthcare appointments.
Recent improvements have also introduced the ability for patients to self-refer to musculoskeletal physiotherapy and maternity services, making it easier to access certain services directly.
The new functionality is part of ongoing work to expand the app’s capabilities and give patients greater control over managing their healthcare.
A major milestone for patients
Dr James Nelson, Chief Clinical Information Officer, welcomed the achievement and highlighted the growing importance of digital access to health services.
He said:
“This is an important landmark for our trust and, most importantly, for our patients. Digital access is becoming an increasingly important part of how people interact with the health service, and My Care makes that more straightforward.
“Reaching 100,000 downloads is a fantastic achievement and a real reflection of how patients are embracing digital services for health, the same way as they would for other aspects of life, like banking, or shopping.
“My Care puts important information at people’s fingertips. Being able to see appointments, selected blood results and medications all in one place can make managing your healthcare much easier.
“The recent introduction of the self- referral and self-scheduling function within physiotherapy is just one example of how the app is continuing to be enhanced and developed. Over time, more functionality and features will be added to make My Care even more useful.
“We want to encourage anyone who has not yet downloaded the app to give it a try. It is a simple, secure way to access health services and keep track of key information about your care.”
Encouraging more patients to get connected
The Northern Trust is encouraging patients who have not yet registered for My Care to explore the service and take advantage of the information and features available.
Further improvements are planned as the digital platform continues to develop, with additional functions expected to make accessing and managing healthcare information easier.
Patients can find out more about the app, including how to register and get started, through the official My Care information page.
