Horse lovers urged to seize last chance to apply for CAFRE equine courses this September

Equine students enjoying unique teaching and learning at CAFRE, Enniskillen Campus.

School leavers hoping to build a career working with horses are being encouraged to act quickly, with places still available on a range of equine courses starting this September at CAFRE’s Enniskillen Campus.

Applications remain open through UCAS Clearing for degree programmes, while students leaving school after GCSEs can still apply directly for a selection of full-time courses and apprenticeships.

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) says there is still time for prospective students to secure a place on courses designed to prepare them for careers across the equine industry.

Courses available from September

CAFRE’s Enniskillen Campus offers study options for students at a range of levels, combining classroom learning with practical experience using modern equine facilities.

Degree-level places remain available on the Foundation Degree in Equine Management and the BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Management. Both programmes are designed to develop leadership, management, research and industry skills, helping graduates prepare for careers across the equine sector in Northern Ireland, the UK and internationally.

For those needing greater flexibility, CAFRE also offers a fully online Certificate of Higher Education in Equine Management. The course is aimed at people who want to continue working or meet other commitments while studying towards a higher-level qualification.

Opportunities for GCSE school leavers

Students receiving GCSE results this summer can also apply directly for full-time Level 3 Equine Management or Level 2 Equine Care courses.

These programmes focus on practical horse care and management while providing the knowledge needed either to move into employment or continue to higher-level study.

CAFRE also offers Level 2 and Level 3 Equine Apprenticeships, allowing students to earn a wage while gaining recognised qualifications and developing practical experience in a workplace.

The apprenticeship route gives learners the opportunity to build industry contacts from the beginning of their careers while developing the hands-on skills employers are looking for.

CAFRE says the equine industry continues to offer diverse career opportunities for skilled young people, with employers increasingly seeking candidates who combine practical ability with technical knowledge, communication skills and business awareness.
