Green light for butcher shop set to become a dental surgery in Kilrea

Proposed plans for Kilrea Dental Surgery

Planning permission has been granted for the change of use of J. Paul & Son Butchers in Kilrea to a dental surgery.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has given the green light to the plans, which will see the ground floor butchers become part of the existing first floor Kilrea Dental Surgery.

Submitted by McGurk Architects, the plans also include internal and external alterations, replacement of existing business signage and street front improvements.

According to the Design and Access Statement, the building is currently subdivided into two separate units and “the proposal unifies the building by linking the ground floor to the first floor stairs via a new entrance lobby”.

It adds: “The works at the new entrance lobby involve closing up of the existing butcher shop doorway creating a new single unified building entrance.”

Other work will include “minor internal alterations and much needed regeneration and upgrade of the dilapidated shop front which will unite the building into one dental surgery building”.

The statement adds: “The application proposes to make minor internal building plan alterations at ground floor level to fit with its new use.

“The proposed alteration, new finishes and signage will vastly improve the shop front, making a positive impact to the street front and improving overall appearance of Maghera Street.”

The council’s Environmental Health Services Department and Department for Infrastructure Roads have no objections to the plans.
