Local racer Rab McAuley has been crowned Ulster Supersport Cup Champion 2025, capping off a remarkable first full season in short circuit racing.

The Galgorm-born rider, who is proudly sponsored by Nearby Galgorm, secured the championship at the penultimate round of the season at Bishopscourt Race Track on Saturday, 27 September.

His dominant year included 11 race wins, four second-place finishes and just one DNF (did not finish), putting the title out of reach for his rivals ahead of the final round.

For McAuley, who only made his short circuit debut as a newcomer in 2024, the achievement represents a rapid rise through the ranks of Northern Ireland motorcycle racing.

Reflecting on his success, he expressed his appreciation to those who have supported him along the way.

“I would like to thank everyone who has played their part in our success this year. All the messages and comments I’ve received so far are greatly appreciated,” McAuley said.

From debut to championship in one season

Motorcycle racing in Northern Ireland has long produced world-class talent, and McAuley’s swift progression shows he could be among the next generation of standout riders.

To progress from his first competitive outing in 2024 to lifting a provincial championship in 2025 demonstrates a level of consistency and determination that is rare for newcomers.

Friends, family and sponsors have rallied behind him throughout the year, with his performances attracting growing attention in the local racing community. His back-to-back wins and consistent podium finishes established him as a serious contender early in the season, before he eventually sealed the championship at Bishopscourt.

A proud moment for Galgorm and Ballymena

McAuley, who was born and raised in Galgorm, Ballymena, has also spoken of the pride he feels in representing his hometown on the track.

His connection with local sponsor Nearby Galgorm has further strengthened that community link, with his success helping to shine a spotlight on grassroots sport in the area.

With one round left on the calendar, McAuley will now race free of championship pressure, but his eyes are already set on the future.

The Ulster Supersport Cup crown is often seen as a stepping stone to higher classes within the sport, and McAuley’s breakthrough season suggests there may be much more to come from the Ballymena rider.

As Northern Ireland continues to nurture its long-standing motorcycling tradition, Rab McAuley’s story stands out — not just for the victories, but for how quickly he has gone from being a complete newcomer to a championship winner.
