Fire Service dealing with large gorse fire near Spelga Dam

Fire appliance.

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) have been tasked to deal with a large fire near Spelga Dam in County Down this evening, Sunday 26 March.


A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said:

 

"NIFRS are currently in attendance at a large gorse fire near to Spelga Dam.

 


"Fire Crews from Rathfriland, Newry, Warrenpoint and Newcastle have been in attendance throughout the day at this incident.

 

"The incident has now been scaled back, however some NIFRS resources will remain in attendance to monitor the situation overnight.

 


"The cause of the fire is under investigation.

 

"Members of the public are asked to avoid this area".
