The Farmers’ Choir brought music, joy and a powerful sense of community to The Braid Arts Centre in Ballymena with a sold-out Spring Concert that showcased the best of local talent and rural camaraderie.


A full house enjoyed an uplifting evening on Saturday as the choir performed a vibrant programme of music, including bespoke arrangements by Musical Director Barkley Thompson.



The concert highlighted not only the musical abilities of the group but also the deep-rooted sense of connection among its members and audience alike.

From moving harmonies to engaging solo performances by choir members, the night was filled with heartfelt moments.


“We are thrilled with the turnout and response at The Braid,” said Barkley Thompson. “It’s a joy to share music with such an engaged audience, and we’re excited about the opportunities ahead to keep building connections through song.”


Following the performance, guests mingled over light refreshments provided by Montgomerys Event Catering, reinforcing the warm and welcoming community atmosphere that the choir embodies.

Thompson also acknowledged the importance of sponsorship in enabling the group’s success. “The choir members were delighted to have the support of United Feeds as the major sponsor for the event.” Representing United Feeds on the evening were Clarence Calderwood and his wife Rosie.


The Ballymena concert marks the start of a bustling summer season for the choir, with several performances scheduled across Northern Ireland.



Upcoming events include:


  • Sunday, 8th June, 2.30pm – St John’s Church of Ireland, Moneymore: A special performance supporting Rural Support, celebrating those who champion and care for rural communities.


  • Friday, 6th June, 8pm – Ballymoney Show: A feature performance at one of the most anticipated events in the agricultural calendar.



The Farmers’ Choir continues to build momentum as a cherished musical voice within rural Northern Ireland, bridging generations and communities through the power of song.
