Emergency services rescue injured man from rocks at Glenarm Harbour

Emergency services carried out a coordinated rescue operation on Sunday evening, 29 June, after a man sustained an ankle injury on rocks at Glenarm Harbour, County Antrim.


The man, who reportedly fell onto rocks near the harbour at around 5.50pm, was safely rescued and transferred to the care of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS).



A spokesperson for the Maritime & Coastguard Agency confirmed:


“A male reported to have injured his ankle on rocks at Glenarm harbour at about 5.50pm on 29 June was safely extricated and passed into the care of Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.”




Larne and Ballycastle Coastguard Rescue Teams were dispatched to assist at the scene, alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS), which also responded promptly to the emergency.


In a statement issued by NIFRS, the service said:


“Firefighters were called to reports of a person who had fallen at Glenarm Harbour, Carnlough, Antrim. Firefighters used rescue equipment to rescue the casualty and transferred them to the care of NIAS. The incident was dealt with by 6.59pm.”




According to NIFRS, the call centre received a call at 5:43pm on Sunday evening. In response one Appliance from Carnlough Fire Station, one from Larne Fire Station, along with two Specialist Rescue Teams from Central Fire Station.
