A woman has sadly died following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Ardglass Road in Downpatrick on Friday evening, 26 December.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 5.40pm following reports of a collision involving a black Seat Arona and a white Vauxhall Insignia.
Chief Inspector Simpson from the Collision Investigation Unit said:
“Police received a report of a two vehicle collision, involving a Black Seat Arona and a white Vauxhall Insignia, at approximately 5.40pm on Friday evening.
“Officers attended alongside emergency services partners, however the driver of the Seat, 73 year old Angela Feenan from the Downpatrick area, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 40’s, was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.”
The death of Mrs Feenan, a local woman from the Downpatrick area, has cast a shadow over the community, particularly during the festive period.
Local residents are expected to pay tribute as news of her passing spreads.
Ardglass Road was closed for a period of time to allow emergency services and specialist collision investigators to examine the scene. The road has since fully reopened.
Chief Inspector Simpson confirmed that investigations remain ongoing and issued an appeal for public assistance:
“Our enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 844 26/12/25.”
Police have urged motorists and local residents to review dashcam or CCTV footage that may have captured the incident or the moments leading up to it.
