Police in Mid & East Antrim made a number of interventions in the Larne and Carnlough areas on Thursday, May 3, which led to several arrests, the seizure of drugs, and the confiscation of an off-road scrambler bike, as part of the ongoing Operation Roadsafe initiative.

District Support Team (DST) Officers, assisting Local Policing Team (LPT) colleagues, conducted a targeted search of a property in the Carnlough area. Several items were seized during the operation and are now subject to forensic testing.

While present in the area, officers were approached by concerned members of the public who reported a scrambler motorcycle being ridden erratically on public roads. With assistance from the public, DST officers successfully located the vehicle.

The rider, a male, has been reported to the Public Prosecution Service for multiple offences, and the bike has been seized to prevent further illegal use.

Later, while returning to Larne, officers encountered a vehicle behaving suspiciously. A search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the seizure of a quantity of both Class A and Class B drugs.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a motor vehicle while unfit through drugs.

Subsequently, officers stopped a second vehicle upon leaving Larne. Following a search, suspected Class A drugs were discovered. The driver was arrested for a range of offences, including driving while unfit and using a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition.

A police spokesperson said:

“Op Roadsafe is an ongoing initiative in order to keep our roads and communities safe. Officers across the district will continue to take proactive steps to ensure the safety of everyone in the community.”

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity. Information can be provided by contacting police on 101 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The coordinated police activity underscores the PSNI’s continued commitment to public safety and tackling criminal behaviour across the Mid and East Antrim district.
