Dougies Goodies, one of Northern Ireland’s best-loved bakery brands, has officially launched in the Aelia Duty Free store at Belfast International Airport, giving departing passengers the chance to enjoy a “taste of home” before they fly.

The Ballymena-born bakery — recognisable for its vibrant pink branding and famous iced treats — now offers its signature cakes, traybakes and bakes to travellers looking to take a little piece of Northern Ireland with them on their journey.

Owner and Creative Director Georgina Warwick said the team was delighted to join the airport’s expanding retail offering.

“We are so excited to launch with Belfast International Aelia Duty Free. Their new expansion showcases the best of what Northern Ireland has to offer, and we are super excited to bring a little pink to the space! So many people travel to see loved ones and friends and take a bit of home with them, now it’s much easier to take that taste of NI wherever you land.”

Commercial Director Jonathan Hunter added:

“We’re over the moon to have Dougies Goodies taking off in Belfast International Airport Duty Free, quite literally! Bringing our cakes and bakes to the airport means passengers can grab a little slice of home before they fly”

A Ballymena Bakery That Reached the Skies

Founded in 1983, Dougies Goodies began as “a wee bakery” in Ballymena, opened by a young baker named Dougie whose mission was simple: to create delicious cakes that brought joy to his community.

Nearly four decades later, Frank and Georgina Warwick continue to grow that legacy. Today, the brand supplies more than 80 retail partner stores across Northern Ireland, operates a flagship store in Belfast city centre, and remains rooted in its passion for handcrafted bakes.

The partnership with Aelia Duty Free marks another major milestone for the family-led business.

Airport Retail Team Welcomes the Local Favourite

The Duty Free store’s retail partners say Dougies Goodies will give passengers a flavour of Northern Ireland’s best-known bakery traditions.

Pauline Maguire, Retail Operations Director at Lagardère Travel Retail, said:

“We are thrilled to announce that Dougies Goodies, the much-loved bakery, is joining our Aelia Duty Free store at Belfast International Airport. Dougies Goodies is a beloved bakery known for its handcrafted cakes, traybakes, and savoury treats made from scratch with no shortcuts.

“With a reputation for exceptional flavour, friendly service, and great value, it’s a must-visit spot for anyone craving authentic, high-quality baked goods. This partnership brings a taste of Northern Ireland’s finest traditions to travellers, ensuring that every journey starts with something truly special.”

The bakery’s marketing team joined the Belfast International Airport VIP Night on Wednesday 19th, where guests queued to spin the Dougies “Spin to Win” wheel and sample the brand’s famous iced diamonds.

Leanne Donnelly, Logistics Manager at Aelia Duty Free Belfast, said staff are thrilled to stock such a popular Northern Irish name.

“We are beyond excited to have Dougie’s Goodies become our latest local company to join us in our Aelia Duty free store here at Belfast International Airport, it has been a staple for anyone from Northern Ireland to have a Dougies Goodies cake the popularity speaks for itself from their famous iced layered cake (a staff favourite) to their famous Fifteens, the team are absolutely buzzing to have them in store and we are excited to extend the love of the bakery to our customers travelling through the airport.”

With its arrival at Belfast International Airport, Dougies Goodies proves once again that great bakes can travel anywhere — and that Northern Ireland’s sweetest creations are ready for take-off.
