There is double the reason to celebrate at Ballymena Primary School after two of its teachers were named among Northern Ireland’s best at a prestigious education awards ceremony in Belfast — marking what the school says is a first for the event.
Mrs McKinley-Smith and Mr Murray each received a Best Teacher Award at the Local Women Magazine Education Awards, held at the Europa Hotel on Saturday 10 October.
In an achievement that has brought particular pride to the school community, Ballymena Primary says it is the first time two teachers from the same school have won the award at the ceremony.
The double success has been warmly welcomed by staff, pupils and parents, who are celebrating the recognition of two teachers whose dedication has helped make a lasting difference in the classroom.
Two teachers and one proud school community

Both Mrs McKinley-Smith and Mr Murray have taught at Ballymena Primary School for seven years, building a reputation for dedication, compassion and creativity in their work with pupils.
Throughout that time, the school says they have consistently demonstrated a commitment to high standards while helping children develop, learn and achieve their potential.
Their success is especially meaningful for the school, which has highlighted the hard work of its entire teaching team while celebrating the individual achievements of two outstanding members of staff.
For pupils, the recognition is a reminder that the encouragement, care and inspiration they experience in their classrooms every day can make an impact far beyond the school gates.
A remarkable achievement for Ballymena
The Local Women Magazine Education Awards, sponsored by thatprizeguy, recognise the contribution of educators and schools across Northern Ireland, celebrating those who go above and beyond for children and young people.

David Murray
While receiving one such honour would be cause for celebration, having two teachers recognised at the same ceremony has made this an especially memorable week for Ballymena Primary School.
The school has expressed its delight at seeing Mrs McKinley-Smith and Mr Murray honoured for the positive difference they make each day, describing their dedication, compassion and creativity as qualities worthy of recognition.
Their achievement also shines a spotlight on the wider school community, where teachers and support staff work together to provide children with the encouragement and opportunities they need to succeed.
For Ballymena Primary School, the celebrations are about more than two awards. They are a recognition of the people who help shape children's lives every day — and a proud moment for a school that can now celebrate not one, but two award-winning teachers.
