Community Rescue Service (CRS) Central has issued a heartfelt Christmas message thanking its volunteers, their families, supporters and partner organisations for their dedication throughout the year — while confirming crews will remain on call 24/7 over the festive period.
As families across Northern Ireland gather to celebrate Christmas, CRS Central has highlighted the quiet but vital work continuing behind the scenes to keep communities safe, even during the holiday season.
In a message shared “from our family to yours”, the voluntary search and rescue organisation expressed its gratitude to those who give their time, energy and support to life-saving work all year round.

The local organisation paid particular tribute to its volunteers, describing them as the backbone of the organisation. It said:
“Your dedication, hard work, and selflessness are the backbone of our organisation. Your willingness to step up in times of need and your tireless commitment to saving lives and ensuring the safety of our community are truly inspiring.”
The statement also acknowledged the many roles volunteers play beyond frontline response, including running charity shops, supporting events and fundraising initiatives. CRS said that, collectively, volunteers “play your part in delivering hope and changing people’s lives for the better every day of the year”.
Families described as ‘unsung heroes’

A strong human focus was placed on the families who support volunteers, often making sacrifices while their loved ones respond to emergencies at all hours.
CRS said:
“The families of Community Rescue Service volunteers are the quiet heroes behind every tasking. Your love, patience, and unwavering support sustain our volunteers on every tasking.”
It added:
“Thank you for your sacrifices, resilience, and faith in your loved ones—you are the unsung heroes of the CRS. We couldn’t do it without you!”
24/7 cover over the festive period

Despite the Christmas break, CRS Central confirmed that volunteers will remain available around the clock. In addition to being on call, teams will carry out pre-planned searches, provide extra safety patrols and attend organised events over the holiday period.
The organisation also thanked its supporters, noting that public generosity enables it to respond quickly and effectively when incidents occur.
“Your ongoing contributions make it possible for us to continue our work, helping keep our communities safe,” the statement said.
“Your belief in our cause empowers us to continue our vital work in search and rescue.”
Partnership working highlighted

CRS Central also acknowledged the importance of collaboration with other emergency and voluntary organisations, thanking partner agencies and fellow NISAR volunteer groups for their continued cooperation.
“Your collaboration, friendship and support are invaluable, and together, we create a strong network of safety and care for our communities,” the service said.
Remembering those lost
In a poignant closing reflection, the organisation encouraged people to remember loved ones who are no longer with them this Christmas.
“The empty chairs at our tables remind us of the loved ones we’ve lost. Let’s honour their memory by raising a glass and cherishing the moments we’ve shared.”
CRS concluded by wishing communities across the region a safe and peaceful festive season, reaffirming its mission:
“The Community Rescue Service – helping keep our communities safe!”
