County Antrim boxer Zoe McCaughran – crowned the new IIBU Lightweight Champion
Carrickfergus boxer Zoe McCaughran has been crowned the new IIBU Lightweight Champion after a superb performance at Belfast’s iconic Ulster Hall on Saturday night (8 November), capping off a triumphant evening for the Evolution Boxing Club team.
Facing a strong and experienced opponent in Aoife Connor, McCaughran displayed her trademark composure, determination and technical skill from the opening bell.
Boxing intelligently and sticking to a well-executed game plan, she controlled the contest throughout to secure a decisive and well-deserved victory — and with it, the prestigious IIBU lightweight title.
The win marks a significant milestone in McCaughran’s career and stands as testament to her dedication, discipline and passion for the sport.
“Zoe has been a role model in and out of the gym — her work ethic and attitude are second to none,” said Coach Iain Mahood.
“She’s constantly pushing herself to improve, and this victory is the result of that commitment. We’re incredibly proud of her.”

The Ulster Hall, steeped in the heritage of Irish boxing, provided the perfect stage for McCaughran’s title triumph. The night also brought success for her Evolution Boxing Club teammates, with Andrew Morton securing an impressive win after a dominant display, and Jack Quinn producing a sensational second-round knockout against Ben Johnston — sealing a clean-sweep hat-trick for the Carrickfergus-based club.
“To walk away from such a big night with three wins — including a title — is something very special,” added Iain Mahood.
“The atmosphere from our travelling supporters made it unforgettable. Nights like that show what our club is all about — teamwork, belief, and community spirit.”
The victory has drawn local praise, with Alliance Councillor Aaron Skinner congratulating the young star on her remarkable achievement.
“Zoe’s achievement is nothing short of outstanding. To win a title at the Ulster Hall takes real grit and talent, and she’s shown both in spades,” said Councillor Skinner.
“She’s a credit to herself, her coaches, and everyone at Evolution Boxing Club. It’s brilliant to see local talent from our area making their mark on such a big stage.”
McCaughran’s triumph not only cements her place among the brightest rising talents in Irish boxing but also reinforces Evolution Boxing Club’s growing reputation as a powerhouse for developing champions.
