Ballyrobin Road in Templepatrick has been closed for several hours following a serious collision between a bus and a car on Saturday morning, February 14. Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers and emergency services are currently at the scene, with diversions in place and motorists — particularly those travelling to Belfast International Airport — advised to allow additional time for their journeys.

The PSNI first advised of the incident shortly after 8:30am, confirming officers and emergency service colleagues were in attendance.

The closure affects a key route frequently used by commuters and airport passengers, causing disruption to weekend travel plans.

Diversions in Place Around Templepatrick

Diversions are currently operating at:

  • The roundabout of the Ballyrobin Road

  • Old Ballyrobin Road at its junction with Ballyrobin Road

  • Rickmore Road Upper

Motorists are being asked to follow diversionary signage and consider alternative routes while the incident is dealt with.

Advice for Airport Travellers

With the Ballyrobin Road forming a main access route to Belfast International Airport, travellers are being urged to factor in extra travel time.

Particularly if travelling to the airport today, please leave extra travel time for your journey as you may need to take another route.

Drivers heading to the airport from the M2 are advised to:

  • Travel through Templepatrick

  • Take the A6 Belfast Road for approximately three miles

  • Turn left onto the A26 Oldstone Road for three miles

  • Turn right onto Ballyrobin Road and continue as normal to the airport

The incident has resulted in significant traffic disruption in the Templepatrick area during what is typically a busy Saturday morning for airport travel.

Motorists are advised to monitor traffic updates and plan accordingly while emergency services remain at the scene.
