Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a violent burglary at a family home Co Antrim in which a woman was assaulted and children were present.

The incident occurred on Friday night, January 30, in the Carnany Park area of Ballymoney. Police say they received the report shortly after 9pm, prompting an emergency response.

Inspector Dalzell said officers were alerted to a serious disturbance involving armed intruders.

“We received a report at around 9.15pm on Friday that two masked men, armed with weapons, had attacked a property in the Carnany Park area and assaulted a woman within the house.”

Police attended the scene alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. The injured woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Officers attended the scene, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, who took the woman on to hospital for treatment to her injuries.”

At the time of the attack, several people were inside the property, including children — a factor police have described as particularly distressing.

“There were a number of people in the property at the time of the attack, including another woman and a man, along with a number of children.”

Officers say the attackers caused extensive damage inside the house before fleeing the scene.

“A significant amount of damage was caused to the interior of the house, with numerous items smashed before the men made off. We believe the suspects turned right after leaving the house and then ran down an alleyway beside the next-door property.”

Police emphasised the traumatic nature of the incident for those involved, especially the children who witnessed the attack.

“This was a very distressing incident for all concerned, particularly given the fact there were a number of children in the house while all of this was going on.”

Detectives are now urging anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have captured footage, to come forward.

“We would therefore appeal to anyone who saw what happened, or who has any information, including CCTV, dash-cam or other footage, to contact police on the 101 number, quoting reference 1488 of 30/01/26.”
