A routine patrol in Carrickfergus has led to the seizure of approximately one kilogram of suspected cocaine, a large sum of cash and designer goods — and the arrest of two people now being questioned by detectives.
Police in Carrickfergus arrested a 39-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman in the early hours of Monday 23rd February at a car park in the Marine Highway area of the town.
The pair were in a parked car which was approached by a passing police patrol shortly after 2am. After speaking with the occupants, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a large sum of money. Both were arrested at the scene.
Detectives from the Organised Crime Branch are currently interviewing the man and woman.
A follow-up search was later carried out at a property in the Dunmurry area, where officers recovered approximately one kilogram of suspected cocaine along with designer goods.
Detective Inspector Kelly from Organised Crime Branch said:
“This is a significant find and demonstrates the commitment of our officers to removing drugs from our streets and disrupting the activities of organised crime groups.
“I would like to thank the officers involved in the arrests and subsequent search for their excellent police work.”
The discovery represents a substantial suspected drugs seizure and forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt organised criminal activity.
