Blaze breaks out near Ballycastle hotel as 56 firefighters respond

A large overnight fire at a commercial premises above The Salthouse Hotel in Ballycastle has been brought under control, with no reported injuries and the hotel confirming it remains fully operational.
The blaze, which broke out shortly after 10pm on Wednesday night (30 July), was centred on a group of farmhouse sheds located on Dunamallaght Road.
It prompted a significant response from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS), with 56 firefighters and seven fire appliances attending from six nearby towns.
Crews worked through the night to contain the fire.

A spokesperson for NIFRS said:
“Following an initial call at 2208hrs on Wednesday 30th July 2025, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are in attendance at a fire at a commercial premise on Dunamallaght Road, Ballycastle.
“Seven fire appliances and 56 firefighters are in attendance from Ballycastle, Ballymoney, Portstewart, Coleraine, Magherafelt and Cushendall supported by a Command Support Unit and other specialist vehicles.”
The fire was successfully contained to the outbuildings, and emergency crews stood down on Thursday morning. There were no reports of injuries, and local residents had been advised to keep windows closed during the incident due to smoke in the area.
Carl McGarrity, speaking on behalf of The Salthouse Hotel, confirmed the fire did not affect the main hotel:
“We can confirm that there was a fire in the early hours of this morning at a group of farmhouse sheds located above The Salthouse Hotel. The fire was contained to the sheds and The Salthouse Hotel has not been affected.
“The hotel remains fully operational and all guest services continue as normal. We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response.”
An investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to be launched by fire authorities in due course.
