Community wellbeing initiative BEAM (Building Empowerment and Awareness to Mind) marked World Suicide Prevention Week by lighting up well-known spaces in Ballymoney, sending a message of hope and solidarity to those who may be struggling.
The initiative aimed to remind people that, even during life’s darkest seasons, there is always light to be found and support available.
“BEAM lit up well-known spaces to remind everyone that even in the most difficult days and seasons of life, there is always a BEAM of hope and light,” organisers said.
The display formed part of the wider effort, designed to raise awareness of mental health and encourage conversations around suicide prevention.
A message of hope and support
Organisers emphasised the importance of ensuring that messages of encouragement are not limited to a single awareness week.
“Please remember not just this week, but every week YOU MATTER. Even if it doesn’t feel like it right now, the world is brighter because you are in it.”
The campaign reflects BEAM’s grassroots approach to mental wellbeing, which has gained strong local support through community events such as May’s Dawn Walk and August’s BEAM in the Park.
Help is always available
For anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts or mental health difficulties, help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week:
Samaritans: 📞 116 123
Lifeline: 📞 0808 808 8000
By highlighting these services, BEAM hopes to ensure that no one feels they have to cope alone.
