AWARE NI peer-led support group comes together to share experiences and build resilience as part of the charity's vital mental health services.
With World Mental Health Day fast approaching on 10 October, AWARE NI, Northern Ireland’s leading mental health charity, is calling on individuals, schools, and businesses in County Antrim to join its ‘By Your Side’ campaign.
This initiative aims to raise vital funds to ensure AWARE NI can continue to support those facing depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder across the region, particularly in County Antrim where we’re calling on local businesses and communities to get involved.
“One in five adults in Northern Ireland faces mental health challenges, highlighting the urgent need for accessible support services,” says Lesley Wright, Community and Events Fundraising Officer at AWARE NI.
“Our ‘By Your Side’ campaign isn’t just about raising funds—it’s about showing those facing mental health challenges that they are never alone. We invite everyone in County Antrim to stand with us, because your support truly changes lives.”

AWARE NI operates 23 peer-led mental health support groups, providing safe spaces for participants to share experiences and build resilience. These groups are essential for fostering community and providing consistent, reliable support for individuals dealing with mental health challenges.
The charity has seen a 10% increase in the use of its support groups from the period of April to July 2023 compared to the same months in 2024, highlighting the growing demand for these services.
In the lead-up to World Mental Health Day, AWARE NI is encouraging participation in various fundraising activities, from sponsored walks, bake sales and raffles to community initiatives like ‘You, Me, and a Cup of Tea’—an AWARE NI-branded coffee morning aimed at bringing people together for meaningful conversations.
“By standing ‘By Your Side,’ we can work together to ensure AWARE NI continues providing essential services to those who depend on us,” says Wright.
“Fundraising for AWARE NI is a powerful way to make a difference, and we will be ‘By Your Side’ with any support you need.”
Connor McCullough, a Ballymena cyclist who recently completed a remarkable 280-mile journey, raising over £1,600 for AWARE NI, adds his backing to the campaign:
“Having faced my own mental health challenges through grief, stress, anxiety, and low mood, I wanted to support AWARE NI. By doing so, you’re contributing to a cause that offers crucial support to many people in need.”
AWARE NI’s services include information, education, and support for people with mental health conditions and their families. The charity's outreach extends across Northern Ireland, offering a lifeline to those who may feel isolated or overwhelmed by their mental health struggles.
Supporters can help AWARE NI continue this essential work by participating in the ‘By Your Side’ campaign.
