A major £737,000 carriageway resurfacing project on Hillhead Road, Ballyclare, is set to restart on Monday 25 August 2025, after being paused earlier in the summer due to contractor resourcing issues.
The scheme will cover approximately 1.8km of the B94 Hillhead Road, extending from 55 metres northwest of Coleman’s Corner Roundabout to just beyond the Belfast Road junction.
Welcoming the recommencement, Infrastructure Minister Kimmins said:
“This is a substantial investment for the Ballyclare area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.
“This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of residents, businesses and those travelling in the area. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”
Road closures and diversions
To enable safe delivery of the scheme, a full daytime road closure will be in place from Mill Road to the A8 between 9am and 4pm from Monday 25 August until Friday 26 September 2025. Local access will be maintained throughout the works.
A signed diversion will operate via:
B94 Hillhead Road – A8 Belfast Road – A57 Templepatrick Road, and vice versa.
The Department for Infrastructure confirmed that the works programme and traffic management plan have been designed to reduce disruption. However, road users should expect some delays.
Residents and commuters are advised to allow extra time for journeys and to follow all temporary traffic restrictions. Translink bus services and school transport will continue to operate, with measures in place to accommodate local access during the works.
Long-term investment
The resurfacing is part of wider investment in Northern Ireland’s roads network, aimed at strengthening infrastructure links for communities and supporting local businesses.
