Police carrying out proactive vehicle checkpoints across Ballymena have seized an uninsured vehicle and detected further driving offences during two nights of road safety operations.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) Ballymena D Section conducted checks at multiple locations on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October, targeting motorists driving without valid insurance or licences and identifying potentially unsafe vehicles.
The operations form part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and ensure motorists comply with legal requirements.

During checks at several locations in Ballymena on Tuesday night, officers seized one vehicle for having no insurance.
A second vehicle was detected being driven without insurance or a valid licence, alongside other road traffic offences.
Police confirmed that both incidents were dealt with by the attending officers, although no further details were provided about the action taken against the drivers.
Further offences detected across district
On Wednesday, officers continued proactive vehicle checkpoints across the wider Ballymena district, checking driver and vehicle compliance.
The operation resulted in another vehicle being detected without insurance, with the driver also found to be driving without a valid licence on the outskirts of the district.
Police said the checkpoints also provide opportunities to engage directly with motorists and identify vehicles that may be untaxed or otherwise unsafe.
Police urge motorists to follow road rules
In a statement following Tuesday’s operation, Ballymena D Section officers said:
“We urge all members of the public to obey the rules of the road to ensure the safety of all road users.”
Officers also thanked motorists who cooperated during the checks, adding:
“Thank you to all the members of the public that engaged with us this evening during stops.”
The latest detections highlight the importance of ensuring vehicles are properly insured and roadworthy, and that drivers hold a valid licence before taking to the roads.
Police have described the checkpoints as part of their ongoing road safety work, with officers continuing to focus on driver and vehicle compliance across the district.
