Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £280,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme is set to begin in Ahoghill on Tuesday 6 May 2025.

The improvement works will focus on two key routes: Straid Road and New Road.

The scheme includes resurfacing 450 metres of Straid Road from its junction with Main Street to just beyond the 30-MPH speed limit area, along with a further 300 metres of New Road extending from its junction with Straid Road to the edge of the 30-MPH zone.

The works will also feature upgrades to the existing footways, aimed at improving pedestrian access and safety.

In announcing the scheme, Minister Kimmins said:

“This is a substantial investment for the Ahoghill area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our rural road and footway network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.

“I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

Traffic Management and Road Closures

To facilitate the safe execution of the resurfacing works, temporary traffic management measures will be implemented.

From Tuesday 6 May to Friday 16 May, lane closures will be in effect between 8am and 6pm daily. Following this initial phase, a full road closure will be enforced from Monday 19 May until Friday 6 June 2025.

During the closure period, a signed diversion route will be in operation via Ballymontenagh Road (C53), Nursery Road (C50), Ballykennedy Road (U2072), and Galgorm Road (A42), and vice versa.

While the Department for Infrastructure has taken steps to minimise disruption and maintain local access, residents and commuters are advised to expect some delays. Motorists should allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity and adhere to all posted traffic restrictions.

Completion Timeline and Public Information

The Department anticipates the works will be substantially completed by 6 June 2025, subject to favourable weather conditions. Updates will be provided if the schedule changes.
