A £1 million refurbishment of the Spa at Carrickfergus Amphitheatre is now underway, marking a major investment in local leisure and wellbeing facilities and reinforcing the venue’s long-term role at the heart of the community.

The Spa area has closed to the public to allow essential works to begin on what council officials have described as a “Spa-tacular” upgrade.

Once complete, the refurbished space will deliver a modern, revitalised environment designed to enhance relaxation, recovery and the overall visitor experience.

The new spa will feature a range of upgraded facilities, including a luxurious spa pool, sauna, steam room, solarium, contemporary rain showers and an invigorating plunge pool, bringing the offering in line with modern expectations for high-quality wellbeing provision.

Welcoming the start of the works, Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, said the project forms part of a wider programme of investment across council-run leisure facilities.

“The refurbishment of the Spa forms part of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s wider programme of investment aimed at ensuring Carrickfergus Amphitheatre continues to meet the evolving needs and expectations of users.

“The investment will complement the highly successful Fitness Suite which was installed in 2023 and has proven popular with members and visitors alike.

“That facility introduced state-of-the-art fitness equipment, helping to significantly enhance the centre’s health and fitness offering.”

Councillor Minford added that the upgraded spa has been carefully planned to appeal to a broad range of users, from regular gym-goers to those simply seeking a space to unwind.

“The upgraded spa facilities have been carefully designed to provide a welcoming, modern and inclusive environment that appeals to a wide range of users, from those seeking relaxation and recovery to fitness enthusiasts looking to support their training and wellbeing.

“The new design will also improve the flow and functionality of the space, ensuring a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for all.”

Works are progressing as scheduled, with completion expected in June 2026. Council has thanked customers for their patience and understanding during the temporary closure of the Spa area.

The investment represents another step in strengthening Carrickfergus Amphitheatre’s position as a key leisure destination, supporting health, wellbeing and quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Upon reopening, the spa will offer a contemporary, high-quality facility designed to meet both current and future demand, ensuring the venue continues to serve the community for years to come.
