Young girl (12) has tragically lost her life in Ballykeel house fire
Emergency Services have responded this evening to a tragic house fire in the Ballykeel area of Ballymena where sadly a young 12 year old girl has lost their life.
Police, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and Northern Ireland Fire Service were called to the scene just before 6pm on Wednesday evening.
Three fire appliances attended the home at Staffa Drive where one person was reported to be still inside the property.
Tragically it is understood that a young girl has lost her life.
One person was taken from scene by ambulance to Antrim Area Hospital.
There are no further details at present.
TUV MLA Jim Allister gave his reaction to the tragedy: “Within hours of a murder in the Ballykeel area of Ballymena the estate has been plunged into fresh sorrow with the tragic death of a young girl in a house fire.
“To now hear of this young girl’s death is devastating. The community rescue efforts were commendable but, alas, to no avail In respect of the child.“
TUV Cllr Matthew Armstrong, who knows family members said, “There are no words adequate to address the horror of this situation. My heart goes out to the distraught and devastated family. I’ve no doubt the tight knit community in Ballykeel will rally round, but there is a void here which will never be filled.”
