Leading zero-emission bus manufacturer Wrightbus has announced the appointment of automotive expert Graham Hamlyn as Director of Global Technical Customer Support, as the company strengthens its senior leadership team to support growing international demand.

Hamlyn, a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in the automotive sector, will now lead a seven-strong technical support team focused on delivering world-class aftersales support for Wrightbus customers across the globe.

Already well-known within the Ballymena-based firm, Hamlyn was instrumental in the successful creation of NewPower, Wrightbus’s innovative repowering division based in Oxfordshire.

The division converts mid-life diesel buses into fully electric zero-emission vehicles — a game-changer in the drive to decarbonise public transport fleets in the UK.

Now taking the helm of global technical operations for Wrightbus’s hydrogen and battery-electric bus fleets, Hamlyn brings a unique blend of engineering knowledge and customer-centric thinking developed over a distinguished career.

International experience and automotive expertise

Hamlyn’s previous roles include a 12-year tenure at Honda, where he helped shape global vehicle development programmes and established a European technical support team at Honda EU’s Frankfurt HQ to support UK-manufactured vehicles.

He later joined Aston Martin, where he spent nine years culminating in his role as Senior Programme Manager for the 2018 Aston Martin Vantage, leading the development of one of the luxury brand’s most iconic performance models.

Meeting customer needs in a growing green fleet

Commenting on the appointment, Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales said:

“We pride ourselves on the quality of our vehicles. As we continue to expand, we want to ensure that our customers are getting that same high-quality experience once the buses have left our factory.

“With a fleet of more than 2,000 zero-emission buses, and more being added every week, the creation of this role will ensure that our many customers have a dedicated technical support team to understand, analyse and drive resolution of technical issues alongside All Service One. Graham brings a vast amount of technical and customer care experience with him.”

Hamlyn’s newly formed team will be responsible for ensuring maximum fleet uptime for customers, providing responsive and robust support and technical solutions.

Speaking about his new role, Graham Hamlyn said:

“We know how important it is for our customers to keep their buses on the road for as much time as possible – and this new team is here to ensure that happens.

“By working closely with our team of engineering experts, we’re responsible for implementing robust technical solutions to make sure our products are the best they can be.”

This latest appointment comes as Wrightbus continues to cement its position as a global leader in zero-emission transport innovation, with its vehicles already operating in several countries and orders continuing to grow.
