Woman in her 50s tragically dies in house fire police confirm

A woman in her 50s has tragically died following a house fire in the Bearna Park area of Killeavy, Newry, early this morning.


Police confirmed they received a report of the blaze at approximately 8:40am and responded swiftly alongside the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and other emergency services.



Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.


A young male who was also present was taken to hospital to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.


Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze.



In a statement, police said: “Police can confirm that a woman aged in her 50s has died following a fire at a house in the Bearna Park area of Killeavy in Newry this morning, Saturday 21st June.”


They added: “Officers are continuing to conduct enquiries into the cause of the fire and are appealing to anyone who may have footage that could assist with the investigation, to contact detectives and refrain from sharing online.”


Anyone with information or relevant footage is urged to contact the Police Service of Northern Ireland immediately.
