Woman, 28, named as victim in Londonderry murder investigation

A 28-year-old woman who died after being found seriously injured in a house in Derry/Londonderry has been named by police as Amy Doherty, as detectives continue a murder investigation.

Amy was discovered at a property in the Summer Meadows Mews area on the morning of Saturday, 21 March. Emergency services attended the scene, but despite efforts to save her, she died a short time later in hospital.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team are leading the inquiry, which has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Police appeal for information

Detective Inspector Ferguson confirmed the details, saying:

“Amy was found, badly injured, at around 10.20am on Saturday. She was taken to hospital by colleagues from the Ambulance Service but, sadly, passed away a short time later.

“At 28 years old, Amy was just a young woman. And my thoughts are, first and foremost, with her family and friends at this unimaginably distressing time.”

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Ferguson added:

“Our enquiries are continuing, and the local community will continue to see a police presence in the Summer Meadows area over the coming days.”

The incident has prompted a continued police presence in the Summer Meadows Mews area as officers carry out enquiries.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have information, no matter how minor it may seem, to come forward as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Amy’s death.
