WATCH: Local NHS Couple discover they’ve won prize worth £1,400
NHS couple, Anthony and Michelle Scullion discovered this week that they won a brand new Apeer door worth £1,400 after being nominated to a raffle draw for NHS staff, care workers and key workers.
Broughshane DJ Mark Ritchie, now a local celebrity fundraiser, has been the driving force behind a massive £26,500 being raised in recent weeks mainly from weekly online lockdown discos that he hosted from his living room lounge, and from musical performances by local musician Rodney Beggs.
Since then around £5k has been donated for PPE for frontline workers and a further £5k to Northern Ireland Children's Hospice, along with £10,000 donated directly to share between a number of frontline heroes!
Mark who manages Raceview Football Club, also works at Apeer Doors within Ace Fixings Ballymena. In support of their hard-working colleague, Apeer generously put up a fabulous prize to kick everything off - an Apeer composite front door worth £1,400 delivered and fitted! Nominations were invited to win the special prize with the winner being picked at random!
Nominating the lucky winners Anthony and Michelle, Brigid McAteer wrote:
“I would like to nominate Anthony and Michelle Scullion for the competition to win a new front door. They are a wonderful young couple with a beautiful wee daughter aged 4 called Isabella. Michelle was redeployed to ICU during the peak of cases in N. Ireland. Anthony already worked in ICU.
“Michelle works three days a week and Anthony works full time nights, and that leaves them one day off together in the week.
“I work with them both and can tell you it's been the hardest session I've ever worked and I'm doing it over 30 years!
“Both of them are genuinely good people who have worked tirelessly during this present crisis. And I can think of no better or more deserving wee couple to get a lift!”
Well done Brigid - it sounds like a very worthy couple.
Thank you to all our keyworkers out there who have been, and still are, doing an amazing job. Thank you to Mark and Rodney who raised this fantastic amount of money, and to all those individuals and businesses in the community who contributed.
