Detectives have launched an investigation and continue to hold the scene today after a blaze engulfed a home in Ballymoney yesterday evening, Friday 25 December.

Fire crews, Police and the NI Ambulance Service rushed to the scene of the fire which was reported at 9.25pm last night. The building was described as 'well alight' in the Charles Street area of the town when crews arrived.

Two men who were in the property at the time managed to get themselves out and to safety through an upstairs window. Witnesses reported one person being checked over by Ambulance Service paramedics.
Councillor Philip Anderson paid tribute last night to the emergency services on duty across the Borough on Christmas Day.
"Today might be Christmas Day but for many emergency service personnel, it's just another day out there protecting our communities,” he said.
"I thank them for their service and thank all those supporting them, I also thank their families."

Fire appliances from Kilrea, Coleraine, and Ballymoney attended the incident, with around 20 firefighters.

Detectives have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze, with a forensics team on site on Saturday morning.

Inspector Stephen McCafferty said:
"Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in what was a terrifying ordeal for the occupants. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and we would appeal to anyone with information about what happened to call us on 101, quoting reference number 1325 of 25/12/20."
