Ballymena man Liam Neeson has journeyed back home in recent days for the filming in Donegal of upcoming Netflix big budget blockbuster In The Land Of Saints And Sinners.

Photographer Karen Skelly captured some of the scenes as the production crew descended on the small Irish parish of Glencomcille and filming got underway.

The 69-year-old Hollywood star will re-team with The Marksman director Robert Lorenz for his latest film. Their previous collaboration topped the U.S. box office earlier this year.

The movie also stars veteran Belfast-born Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy actor Ciarán Hinds. Ciarán recently earned his first Oscar nomination for his performance in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast.

Production teams chose Glencolmcille and Kilcar along with the fishing port of Killybegs and surrounding areas for two months of filming.

Set in the remote Irish village, Neeson will play a newly retired assassin who finds himself drawn into a lethal game of cat and mouse with a trio of vengeful terrorists.

Photographer Karen Skelly shared photographs and recordings on her social media pages as excited locals watched on at the live filming set. She commented:

“A long day on the set of In The Land of Saints and Sinners with Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds in Glen. Pre bought by Netflix it’s sure to be a blockbuster! A Donegal sunset created a glorious backdrop for the evening filming!”

It is understood a number of locals have also been hired as extras in the production.
