Victim of a tragic early morning crash in Ballymoney named locally



The victim of an early morning RTC has been named locally as Mac O'Neill.


Tributes have been pouring in on social media all morning and afternoon with many describing him as a 'gentle giant'.


Inspector Mullan said: “Shortly after 6:05am, it was reported that a blue Peugeot 207 was involved in the incident. Tragically, the man died as a result of his injuries at the scene.


“The Ballybogey Road at its junctions with Frosses Road and Tullaghgore Road remains closed following the incident.


“Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage available, to contact officers at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 212 22/01/21.”


Councillor Darryl Wilson said: "I was deeply saddened to learn that a road traffic collision which occurred on the Ballybogey line this morning has resulted in a fatality. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to all impacted by this awful tragedy.”


A NIAS spokesperson said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 06.10 on Friday, 22 January 2021 following reports of an incident at Ballybogey Road, Ballymoney. NIAS despatched one Emergency crew to the scene. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, no one was taken to hospital.”
