It has emerged on Friday afternoon (22 October) that interim leadership arrangements have been agreed for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
The arrangements have been made after the Council Chief Executive, Anne Donaghy, recently took sick leave from her role amid ongoing controversy and internal wrangling, with allegations of a toxic culture that enabled a scourge of systemic bullying.
Earlier this week, councillors were alarmed after detectives raided the Chief Executive’s office at the Council’s headquarters at The Braid in Ballymena.
Police released a statement following the operation saying:
“Detectives from Criminal Investigation Branch visited an address earlier today (Wednesday 20 October 2021) at Bridge Street, Ballymena as part of an investigation into suspected offences of Misconduct in Public Office and under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. As this is an ongoing investigation it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
Confirming the newly agreed interim arrangements, a Council spokesman this afternoon said:
“Elected Members on Mid and East Antrim Borough Council have put in place interim leadership arrangements for the Council, following a special meeting yesterday (Thursday 21 October).
“Three Directors were approved to take on the role of Acting Clerk and Chief Executive on a rotating basis, as required.
“Our Elected Members, senior management team and staff continue to work hard to deliver services for all residents and businesses within the Mid and East Antrim area.”
