Renewed appeal after driver left with serious facial injuries when rock-filled bin thrown at lorry

Police have made a fresh appeal for information in relation to an incident in County Antrim that occurred earlier this year, when a wheelie bin with large rocks was thrown from an overpass at a lorry, leaving the driver with serious facial injuries.

The appeal was featured on BBC NI’s Crime NI programme on Monday evening.

A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said:

“We are investigating an incident on the A8 Larne Road on Friday 8 January 2021 which has left a man with serious facial injuries.

“At around 10.40pm, a lorry drove under the Ballyboley overpass, when it was struck with a wheelie bin and large rocks, hitting the cab and shattering the windscreen.

“As a result of this horrific incident, the driver of the lorry is now blind in one eye.

“We are appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area of the overpass or who captured dash-cam footage of the incident to contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”
