Statement from the First Minister & deputy First Minister following the death of Jimmy Spratt

First Minister Arlene Foster and deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill have expressed their sympathies following the death of former MLA Jimmy Spratt.

First Minister Arlene Foster said:

“It is with real sadness that I have learned of the passing of my colleague and friend Jimmy Spratt.

“Jimmy was a man dedicated to public service, first in policing and then in politics. He was committed to making our society a safe and peaceful place to live and work. He did so with grace and humour which won him the respect and esteem of all those who met him, regardless of background. I will miss him greatly.

“I send my sympathies and prayers to Lynda and the Spratt family.”

Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill said:

“Jimmy Spratt was involved in politics for many years and was a very passionate representative for those whom he served throughout a long career.

“I knew Jimmy from his days as an MLA in the Assembly, and he was a real character.

“I send my sympathies to his wife Lynda, their sons and his colleagues.”
