Two people rescued in vehicle on North coast beach

Emergency services were tasked on Wednesday afternoon, 15th November, after two people needed rescued on a North Coast beach.


HM Coastguard responded after receiving a report at 3:40pm of a vehicle in the water at Downhill Beach. Both Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent to the scene.



A short time later at 3:51pm, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) were requested to attend the incident at the Benone end of Downhill Beach.


Two Fire Appliances from Coleraine Fire Station, a Water Rescue Team from Crescent Link, Londonderry, and a Specialist Rescue Team attended.



A spokesperson for NIFRS said:


"Firefighters attended a water rescue of two people from a vehicle in approximately two feet of water at Downhill Beach, Castlerock (Benone end). Both casualties were checked by NIAS with no injuries. The PSNI and Coast Guard were also in attendance.


"The incident was dealt with by 4.31pm."
