Two more arrests made after PSNI officer struck by stolen police vehicle

Detectives investigating the incident in Downpatrick in which a police officer sustained serious injuries after being struck by a stolen police vehicle have made two further arrests and charged a man to court.


The 27-year-old man arrested following the incident has now been charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and using a motor vehicle without insurance.



He is due to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 1 June.


Police said the man has been bailed to allow for further enquiries relating to allegations of driving whilst unfit and aggravated vehicle taking causing injury.


He has also been released unconditionally in relation to attempted murder and a number of additional driving-related offences.



The PSNI added that, as is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.


Further arrests made as investigation continues


Meanwhile, detectives have also arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated vehicle taking causing injury.


A 27-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.


Both remain in police custody at this time as enquiries continue.



The investigation follows the serious incident on Sunday morning when an officer was struck by a stolen police vehicle during an operation in Downpatrick.


The injured officer was taken to hospital with injuries described by police as serious but not believed to be life-threatening.
