Two arrested over alleged sexual assault of teenage girl in Ballymena

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have arrested two men in connection with an alleged sexual assault involving a 13-year-old girl in Ballymena.


The serious incident is reported to have taken place on the evening of Saturday 24th May 2025, during daylight hours, in the Ballykeel area of the town. The young age of the victim and the reported location of the assault, close to residential areas, have sparked deep concern within the local community.



It is understood that the two suspects, both men in their 30s, were arrested yesterday afternoon, Monday 23rd June. Witnesses reported a visible police presence in the area, with officers, including forensic teams, attending a residential property as part of the investigation.


A spokesperson for the PSNI confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday 24th June:


“Detectives investigating the report of a sexual assault of a teenage girl in the Ballykeel area on Saturday, May 24th, have arrested two men aged in their 30s.”



The spokesperson added:


“They remain in custody at this time, assisting with enquiries..”


The PSNI has not yet released further details regarding the nature of the investigation or the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault. However, it is understood that police enquiries are ongoing and that the victim is being supported by appropriate services.
