Cars bring freedom and independence and in a new True North documentary we meet five motor- mad women who use their vehicles as a way to express their creativity and individualism.
From ‘drifting’ to showing, these women spend thousands pimping and modifying their vehicles with some gearing up to show them off at Dubshed - the biggest motor show in Northern Ireland.
In True North: One Lady Owner! these young women share their passion for motoring - the bling, the mechanics, the technology and the handling - and how it creates lasting friendships.

Jessica Purdy from Coleraine started her own female car club on social media once she realised how male dominated the car show scene was. For motor enthusiast Jessica there is nothing more frustrating than someone mistaking her moonlight blue car colour for black.
As one of the highest ranked female drifters in the world, Danielle Murphy from Dublin is a past winner of the first Queen of Europe series at the European Drift Championships. Danielle has been off the track for a few years and faces a tough and emotional decision about returning to competitive driving, and an uphill battle whipping a new car into shape.

Danielle said:
“Drifting is exhilarating. I just want the track to open up and just go hell for leather and burst loose. I'm like a caged animal when I'm inside the car and I just want the car to break loose on the track!”

Mechanic Sophie McDonald from Larne doesn’t shy away from getting her hands dirty when it comes to diagnosing problems with her slightly temperamental car - The Princess.
Sophie does most of the work herself, with a little assistance from partner Brendan who is always along for the ride, and describes listening to the roar of the engine as her therapy.

Rachel Stewart from Lurgan is a proud young mum, but considers her four wheeled baby as an extra child. Rachel uses her car for ‘me-time’ and, with Dubshed around the corner, wants it looking pristine for the show.

Former Northern Ireland footballer, Nikita Morgan from Antrim, has spent more money modifying her car than she actually paid for it and with show season around the corner wants her motor to stand out. With custom wheels being built in America, can she get it all finished in time for Dubshed?
