Traffic delays expected this weekend with band parade in Ballymena



Police have advised motorists to expect traffic delays this weekend in Ballymena as North Ballymena Protestant Boys (NBPB) annual parade is scheduled to take place in the town on Saturday 24 September.


NBPB will kick off the evening at 6:30pm, marching the pre-parade route from Waveney Road, proceeding along Galgorm Road - Pentagon - Ballymoney Road - Fountain Place - Albert Place - Lower Mill Street - Wellington Street and finishing at Broadway Avenue.



Ballykeel LSOU will be playing at 7.30pm under the Band Stand at Broadway Avenue.


With organisers expecting up to 38 bands, the main parade will set off at 8pm from Broadway Avenue, proceeding along Church Street - Bridge Street - Larne Road Link - Bridge Street - Harryville Bridge - Henry Street - Larne Road - Paradise Avenue - Queen Street - Henry Street - Harryville Bridge - Bridge Street - North Road - Galgorm Road - Pentagon - Lower Mill Street - Wellington Street - Ballymoney Street - William Street - Broughshane Street.



A spokesperson for NBPB Flute Band commented:


"We are delighted to announce Rathcoole Protestant Boys will be leading our parade this year.


"The lineup of bands so far confirmed is shaping up to be another fantastic parade in our town and the decibel reader will be along the route again this year."



Ahead of the parade, a police spokesperson said:


"Motorists are being advised to expect delays in Ballymena Town Centre and Harryville tomorrow, Saturday 24 September, due to a planned parade.


"The parade will begin at 8pm and is scheduled to finish at 11pm.


"Localised road closures will be in place during this time and there will be disruption to traffic.


"Please seek an alternative route for your journey to avoid any potential delays."
