Three people found dead at Ballymena home as police launch investigation

Police are investigating after three members of the same family were found dead at a house in Ballymena on Monday morning.

The bodies were discovered inside a property in the Old Cullybackey Road area, prompting a major police response and the closure of roads as detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Police say there is no ongoing risk to the public.

In a statement, the PSNI said:

“Police are investigating the circumstances after three people were found dead in the Old Cullybackey Road area of Ballymena this morning, Monday 13th July.

“The three people were related and found inside the family home.

“There is no ongoing risk to the public.”

The force has not released any further details about the identities of those who died or the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Political representatives respond to the shocking incident

North Antrim MP Jim Allister said the deaths had caused profound shock within the local community.

He said:

“The triple deaths in Ballymena are a tragedy causing great shock in the community.

“Though details remain scant, clearly there are family and friends who have suffered huge loss.

“The police have confirmed to me there is no ongoing risk to the community and no further persons are being sought.

“More details will follow. Sincere condolences to all affected.”

Alliance North Antrim MLA Sian Mulholland said the discovery of three people dead at a Ballymena home had left the local community in shock.

She said:

“While details continue to emerge about this incident, it is clear there has been a tragedy.

“The community in Ballymena is in shock already and my thoughts are with everyone affected by what will be an incredibly distressing time, particularly the family and friends of the deceased.

“I have spoken to police, who will need time to investigate this matter, and I urge anyone with information to give it to them immediately.”

Roads remain closed

Police forensic officers at the scene of the tragic incident.

The Cullybackey Road and Old Cullybackey Road remained closed on Monday as officers continued their investigation.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area where possible and seek alternative routes while police carry out enquiries.
