RTÉ has confirmed one of the most eagerly awaited announcements of the festive season: the theme for The Late Late Toy Show 2025 will be The Grinch.
Inspired by Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, tonight’s show promises a heartwarming blend of mischief, magic and festive joy, marking the culmination of a week of Christmas programming reveals.
Families tuning in tonight will be transported to Who-ville, where the Toy Show set has been transformed into a colourful, whimsical world celebrating one of Christmas’s most beloved stories.
More than 300 children from across Ireland will take to the stage, bringing energy, talent and heartfelt moments to the annual festive spectacle.
A dream theme for host Patrick Kielty

Speaking ahead of the broadcast, host Patrick Kielty expressed his delight at bringing a childhood favourite to life.
“The Grinch has always been a huge part of Christmas for me and since becoming host of the Toy Show, it’s always been a dream to make him part of the best night of the year. I am so excited to share the magic of Who-ville with families all across Ireland this Toy Show.
“The set is spectacular, the costumes are incredible and the children are going to make it truly unforgettable. It’s a show full of heart, joy and a little bit of mischief - just as the Grinch would want!” he said.

Tonight’s highly anticipated opening will also feature a special narrator, as Liam Neeson lends his iconic voice to introduce the 2025 extravaganza.
A spectacular set straight from Dr Seuss
RTÉ’s production designers have created an elaborate set that brings the fantastical world of Who-ville to life, complete with its signature colourful homes, quirky details and bustling town square setting.
Costume and Make-Up Departments have devoted months to crafting Dr Seuss-style designs, even transforming Kielty himself into the spirit of Who-ville after hours in the make-up chair.
Showcasing Irish children’s creativity

Children from across the country will demonstrate their favourite games, hobbies and creative talents, alongside the cherished annual book review segment, where young readers share their thoughts on a selection of stories.
Performances throughout the night will feature Christmas classics and standout songs of 2025, ensuring viewers can sing and dance along from home.
A full list of this year’s featured toys will be available on the show’s website after the broadcast, and—as always—all toys will be donated to charities.
A global tradition

The Toy Show remains a worldwide cultural phenomenon. In 2024, it achieved a record-breaking 622,000 streams across 139 countries, reaffirming its status as a festive global event.
Audiences can tune in tonight at 9:35pm on RTÉ One and watch live worldwide via RTÉ Player. Highlights will also be available on The Late Late Show YouTube channel.
