Terrorism Investigation Unit granted 34hr extension to question man arrested in Ballymena

Terrorism Investigation Unit Detectives were granted a 34 hour extension for the detention of a 51 year old male at Belfast Magistrates Court this morning (10th June 2022).
The court also granted a 14 hour extension for the detention of a 46-year-old male arrested in Belfast.
Both cases are connected.
Terrorism Investigation Unit detectives, investigating a hijacking and security alert in North Belfast on Friday 25 March, arrested the two men on Wednesday 8
June.
A red van was stopped by police at the entrance of the Heath & Care Centre, Cushendall Road, in Ballymena shortly after lunchtime on Wednesday.
As part of the operation, a 51 year-old male was arrested at the scene under the Terrorism Act. The van was been seized and taken away for examination.
The 46-year-old male was also arrested under the Terrorism Act in the Shankill area. Two suspected firearms were recovered and a vehicle taken away for examination.
Both men are currently being held and questioned in the Serious Crime Suite of Musgrave police station in Belfast.
