Rescue dog Tyson, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was involved in a collision with a vehicle

A senior rescue dog named Tyson is facing the loss of a leg after being struck by a car while straying in Ballymena, prompting an urgent fundraising appeal by local not-for-profit rescue The Half Way Dog House to cover his life-saving veterinary treatment.

Tyson, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, is currently being held in a local pound and is expected to be released to The Half Way Dog House as soon as possible. Initial veterinary assessments indicate that he may require a leg amputation following the collision.

Although Tyson’s owner was located after the incident, they were unable to take him back or meet the cost of the urgent veterinary care he now needs.

Urgent appeal launched as rescue faces mounting pressure

The Half Way Dog House, which rescues and rehomes dogs from pounds across Ireland, said it only became aware of Tyson’s situation a few days ago and has been working urgently to secure a foster placement so his medical treatment can begin immediately.

The rescue has warned that Tyson’s case is particularly time-sensitive, as it is currently overwhelmed with other urgent cases and has limited resources available without additional funding.

Without sufficient financial support, the charity says it is restricted in the level of care it can provide, despite the severity of Tyson’s injuries and the need for prompt intervention to prevent further suffering.

Fundraising appeal to cover veterinary costs

A crowdfunding appeal has now been launched to help meet the cost of Tyson’s veterinary bills and ongoing care.

The charity has stressed that even small contributions, or simply sharing Tyson’s story, could make a meaningful difference to his outcome.

Community support sought beyond donations

For those unable to contribute financially, The Half Way Dog House is appealing for alternative forms of support, including sharing the appeal, organising fundraising events, or donating items or vouchers for raffles.

Anyone wishing to donate raffle prizes, arrange an event, or offer fundraising support is encouraged to contact the rescue at: thehalfwaydoghouse@hotmail.com

Updates on Tyson’s condition are being shared via The Half Way Dog House Facebook page.

A fight for a pain-free future

The rescue acknowledged that appeals of this nature are frequent but said it could not turn away from Tyson’s situation, emphasising that timely support could help him secure a pain-free and comfortable future following his injuries.
