Search continuing for missing person on Co Antrim coast

Police are appealing for information following the report of a missing person in the Whitepark Road area of Ballintoy.


According to police the man is described as being 39-years-old, approximately 5 feet 8, with red hair and of thin build. He was wearing a blue raincoat and dark clothing. He was last seen by his family in the Belfast area at 9pm yesterday, Thursday 8 September, but is believed to have travelled to the Ballintoy area.


Emergency Services were tasked yesterday evening, and it is understood the person’s car was discovered in the Ballintoy area. An extensive air, land, and sea search operation was launched.



Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R199 from Prestwick, PSNI Air Support, Portrush Lifeboat, two life boats from Red Bay and Coastguard rescue teams from Coleraine, Ballycastle, and Larne are involved, as well as volunteers from the Community Rescue Service.



Police have confirmed the search is currently ongoing today, Saturday 10 September.

A police spokesperson said:

“Anyone who may have seen anyone matching this description is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 591 of 09/09/22.”
